EL MONTE, CALIFORNIA — Police in the Los Angeles area are on the hunt for the man in this video, who can be seen shooting dead a fast food restaurant employee during a robbery attempt that came up empty.

On the night of October 21, the suspect entered the Jack in the Box in El Monte, California, wearing a blue cap and a Halloween mask. Armed with a handgun, the thief then hopped over the counter and pulled the firearm on two employees working in the back. 25-year-old Juan Manuel Vidal happened to be one of them.

The masked man demanded Vidal hand over the cash available in the restaurant, but there was none to be had. Police say the thug then made a physical attempt to retrieve the money, but when he came up empty, he decided to take Vidal’s life instead.

After pulling the trigger, the gunman wasted no time in making his getaway, hopping the counter and bolting out of the burger joint toward a getaway vehicle parked down the street. The car raced away, and has not yet been tracked down. Meanwhile, Juan Manuel Vidal lay bleeding in the back of the restaurant, suffering a gunshot wound to his upper torso.

The L.A. County Sheriff’s Department is asking for the public’s help to track down the gunman and his accomplice, as the victim’s mother mourns the loss of her son, pleading for someone to help bring her justice. Juan Manuel Vidal had recently graduated as a pharmacy technician, and was engaged to marry his high school sweetheart at the time of his death.

Anyone with information regarding the incident has been asked to contact police, as the search for Juan Vidal’s killer continues.
