DES MOINES, IOWA — A Trump supporter may be facing up to five years in prison for committing voter fraud.
On October 27, 55-year-old Terri Rote was arrested by police on a charge of first-degree election misconduct. According to police, Rote cast an early voting ballot at an election office in Polk County. She then cast another early voting ballot at a county satellite location in Des Moines.
Rote claims she feared her first ballot for Trump would be changed to a vote for Hillary Clinton, and didn’t want to take any chances. Voter fraud is a Class D felony, so she was placed in jail. Two others in Polk County were arrested last week, also having committed voter fraud.
At rallies in Colorado over the weekend, Trump asked his supporters whether they thought the early votes were being properly counted, saying “I know they’re all saying everything is so legitimate. Maybe I’m a more skeptical person.”
Terri Rote has since been released on bond, but could face up to five years in prison for her crime.
