Katy Perry was scheduled to appear at an annual early November event sponsored by online retail giant Alibaba, but pulled out at the last minute.

Though she said a ‘family emergency’ had arisen, many of her fans in China believe her absence was due to Hillary Clinton’s election loss.

A number of those posting on social media site Weibo were incredibly sympathetic to how Perry, an ardent supporter of the Democrat, must be feeling.

One person wrote, “Oh, I’ve just learnt the news. It seems that Hillary Clinton’s loss has made Katy Perry heartbroken.”

Another commented, “I love u. Sorry for the loss of your country. We always support you.”

On election night Perry expressed disappointment at the results but appeared to have no intention of giving up on her convictions.

Among her tweets were the messages, “WE WILL NEVER BE SILENCED. #LOVETRUMPSHATE” and “Fight for what is RIGHT.”
