BEIJING — More than a hundred women are now in a bind after photos of them posing nude were leaked on Chinese social media.

Global Times reports that the racy photos originated from a 10-gigabyte zip file, which also contained videos and the personal information of around 167 women.

Most of the victims were born from 1993 to 1997, often desperate college students who turned to Jiedaibao, an online platform for loans. Shady lenders on the platform took advantage of the situation by not only charging exorbitant interest rates, but also requiring the women send nude pictures of themselves.

The debtors send photos of themselves holding up their ID, or a promissory note, to act as guarantees that they would pay back the money, plus interest.

If they were unable to pay up, the loan sharks would send the nudes to their families, harassing the victims until the debt was paid back.

Authorities have yet to determine who was responsible for the leak, though Jiedaibao denies any involvement. According to them, the nudes constitute a private deal, which they cannot regulate.
