There is something eerie about the Hidden Lakes Park by Center Avenue in Martinez, CA. I've read several ghost stories about children and adults haunting the area. It wasn't until my son experienced it for himself that I believed it.
One day when I was about 9 months pregnant with my second child, my husband took our 4 year old out to the Hidden Lakes Park with some cousins and his brother-in-law. While they were walking through the park they heard a fisherman across the lake yelling. He jumped out of his boat and headed toward them.
He was pointing toward a little puff of hair underneath the algae in the water. My husband's brother-in-law jumped in and pulled my son out of the water and they raced home where we made him a warm bath. His lips were blue and he was shivering cold. As he warmed up he smiled up at me and told me he just wanted to walk on the green stuff but he fell in. He then looked at me with a serious face said the women in the water told him to hold his breath because someone was coming to save him. She said don't breathe. Just wait.
There was no woman at the park that day. He is now a happy 26 year old man.
This is my own story, and it is true.
