France wants to kill 800,000 ducks to prevent the spread of the bird flu

Workers in France gassed nearly 8,000 ducks on Friday morning in an attempt to prevent the spread of the bird flu. The total is scheduled to rise to 800,000 by the end of next week. In recent weeks, France has been dealt with 95 reported outbreaks of the H5N8 bird flu virus. The country has the largest poultry flock in the EU. The mass killing of the ducks took place in southwest France, which is where many ducks and geese are raised in order to make 'foie gras' (duck liver).
