Brazil troops sent to 'inspect' restive prisons

Brazilian authorities say they are deploying 1,000 troops to "clean out" arms and cellphones from restive prisons while police struggle to end a deadly gang face-off in one northern penitentiary. The troops -- the same ones used during the Olympic Games in Rio last year -- don't have the constitutional authority to take control of the prisons. They will only inspect the jails and remove contraband weapons, explosives and phones.
