BATON ROUGE, LOUISIANA — A 56-year-old woman has been hailed a hero after she fearlessly stepped in to stop a cop from being brutally attacked.
According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, officer Billy Amie had found drugs on a man during a Sunday morning traffic stop. When he attempted to make an arrest, the suspect reportedly became combative and aggressive.
Vickie Williams-Tillman was passing by when she saw the altercation, and quickly pulled over to ask if the officer needed help. Before he could answer, the suspect grabbed his baton and began to hit him repeatedly on the head.
Williams-Tillman called 911 and ran out of her vehicle. She then jumped on the suspect’s back in an effort to stop the assault. She held him off until a second officer arrived and restrained the suspect with a stun gun.
Both the officer and his savior were taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries. Both were released Sunday night.
The suspect, identified as Thomas Bennett, 28, has been booked into Parish Prison on charges of aggravated battery, disarming a police officer, battery on a police officer, resisting an officer with violence, possession of cocaine, and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to CBS.
