New images have revealed answers about LSD to a group of researchers studying the hallucinogen. According to the study, the LSD molecule gets trapped inside a protein that senses serotonin, a chemical messenger in the brain that influences perception and mood. What that means is that the hallucinogen infuses into serotonin receptors, possibly leading to a lengthy trip, or hallucinogenic experience, as LSD remains in the protein for hours. Bryan Roth, a co-author of the study, stated that the study is the first to look at LSD at the molecular level.
