Poachers Kill Rhinoceros Inside A Zoo In France, Steal Animal’s Horn

Vince, a 4-year-old white rhinoceros living at the Thoiry Zoo, located near Paris, was killed by poachers.

Poaching continues to be a serious problem especially among animals with horns and tusks that hold great value on the black market.
Among the latest victims of the crime is Vince, a 4-year-old white rhinoceros living at the Thoiry Zoo, located near Paris, reports The Independent.
On Tuesday morning, a keeper found the animal dead.
It appears that during the night one or more perpetrators broke into the zoo, shot the rhino three times, and removed his horn with a chainsaw.
Reuters reports that "Vince's second horn was partially cut, leading the zoo to believe that the intruders were disturbed or their equipment failed."
Soon after the discovery, the zoo wrote on Facebook, “This odious act was perpetrated despite the presence of five members of the zoological staff living on the spot and surveillance cameras. The other two white rhinoceros living in Thoiry, Gracie aged 37 and Bruno aged five years, escaped the massacre and are safe."
Rhino horns are popular in some Asian countries as they are believed to be an aphrodisiac and can command upwards of $35,000 a piece.
