Fight Life TVs next fighter to feature on the Behind The Fighter is Liverpool’s rising fighter, Jack ‘The Pilgrim’ McGann. At just 23 Jack has built up a prolific reputation as a deadly fighter with an impressive record of 11-4-0, ten of those he won via TKO.
As a child Jack never anticipated becoming an MMA fighter, he only began training in a bid to bulk up and be able to defend himself. As a relatively small kid growing up in Liverpool his father thought it imperative that his son could stick up for himself.
Although he only started out training he soon caught the fighting bug. At the age of 19 Jack went over to Thailand for three months in order to focus on his training. Not only did it improve his
fighting ability it also cleared his head following a rough few years in which Jack lost his mother and uncle to cancer.
It was a decision that would ultimately propel his career. He was able to hone in on his skill, refine his technique and it not only made him physically stronger but mentally also. A trait that every great fighter needs to become a champion. He was now ready to go pro and in his first fight Jack took down his opponent in an astonishing 28 seconds. It was a fight that set the precedent for future fights as he established himself as a natural fighter.
Unsurprisingly Jack’s success has riled up quite the fan base, particularly in Russia where his last three fights have taken place. Last year saw Jack facing some of Russia’s top fighters, winning two and losing one Jack soon became a distinguished figure in Russia. An accolade that earned him a sponsorship with Fight Night Global after they sought out his adept fighting skills.
The contract with Fight Night Global is a huge deal that will enable him to make a lucrative career out of fighting which isn’t an easy feat. It’s that big of a deal that Jack’s Nan has finally stopped asking him when he is going to get a proper job.
With a smirk Jack said: “Every time I would go see my Nan she’d ask when I was going to get a proper job and I’d tell her this is my job. She gets that now which is good.”
All of his hard work, confidence and mental resilience is seemingly paying off as this young athlete carves his name into the MMA world. With his new contract Jack is hoping he will take on bigger fighters at even bigger shows. With this contract he hopes he can get Fight Night Global to host a show in the UK, in a bid to grow MMA in Britain.
Whilst he has a peripheral vison for the future he is currently focused on his upcoming fight where he will face Levan Makashvili at EFN 64 on the 31st of March.
Commenting on his next fight Jack said: “I can’t wait for my next fight it’s going to be insane. I love fighting in Russia and I love fighting in general. I couldn’t think of doing anything else in the world, this is what I’m meant to do.”
