A 6.5 magnitude earthquake struck the Indonesian province of Aceh on 7 December, killing dozens of people. Many are feared to be trapped under debris as several buildings collapsed following the massive quake. No tsunami warning was issued by the country’s meteorological department. Indonesia is frequently hit by strong earthquakes as it sits on the Pacific "Ring of Fire" – a region which is in constant danger of volcanoes and earthquakes.
