CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA — The College of Charleston is under fire after a student was asked to leave the campus gym because she was wearing a crop top.
In a viral Facebook post, Sarah Villafane claims she was asked to leave the gym for wearing an outfit that exposed skin on her midriff. Apparently, the college needs people to exercise in a full shirt and other athletic attire to protect from infectious skin diseases.
Villafane said the gym later told her she’d been asked to leave because of “sanitary concerns,” but she reckons there’s a double standard at the school gym.
She told Today that other women have been spotted wearing similar gear, and men have even been seen in midriff-exposing muscle t-shirts and exercising in jeans.
