MUKILTEO, WASHINGTON — Dashcam footage of a small plane plummeting to the ground and catching fire earlier this week is going viral online.
On May 2, the single-engine plane carrying the pilot and a single passenger had taken off just moments before at a nearby airport field. Not long after leaving the ground, the plane’s engine reportedly failed when it reached an altitude of roughly 500-1,000 feet.
Then plane then ripped through a power line, hit a traffic light, and crashed into the street. It sparked a car fire and skidded to a stop, taking a few vehicles out in the process.
By some miracle, the 30-year-old pilot and the passenger both walked away from the accident without injury. However, two people on the ground were treated for minor injuries.
An investigation into the accident is being conducted by the National Transportation Safety Board. So far, officials say the evidence suggests the man piloting the plane was not to blame.
