Muslim girls and women who cover their hair are often given a lot of unnecessary flack. People assume that they must feel so oppressed, or that they’re being forced to wear headscarves.

It’s too bad that most of the people making these assumptions have never met anyone who actually wears the hijab, or the pashmina, or the al-amira, or the other types of headwear that some Muslim women wear. Those same people also have no clue of how wrong they are to assume that anyone who wears a headscarf is some sort of robot without a real personality or sense of style.
