Aerial footage taken near Big Sur, California, shows a massive landslide that has closed a portion of the Pacific Coast Highway, also known as Highway 1. The slide was reported on May 21; this video was published on May 22.Caltrans District 5 reported a few million tons of rock and dirt slide across the road. In what Caltrans described as “Mother Nature hard at work,” the tweet said about one-third of the roadway was covered, 35 to 40 feet deep in some spots.A Caltrans representative told the Los Angeles Times smaller slides had occurred across Highway 1, but crews had to abandon their work after engineers noticed a section of the upper hillside had started to move.
