He took the role of crown prince from his cousin Mohammad bin Nayef, who has been admired in Washington as the country’s leader on counterterrorism.Bin Salman is considered to be less politically conservative than his father. Nevertheless, he he is responsible for the war in Yemen, and also played a role in cutting diplomatic ties with Qatar.The ‘millennial prince’ is reportedly close with U.S. President Donald Trump, a relationship that could potentially be leveraged to increase pressure against Iran.Due to his young age, it’s likely that the new prince will lead the wealthy Middle Eastern kingdom for decades to come.
