Al-Abadi Tours Part of Mosul on Foot Under Heavy Guard

Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi arrived in Mosul on July 8 to “congratulate the armed forces and Iraqi people on … victory” over Islamic State (IS), according to his Twitter account.Al-Abadi was expected to declare the recapture of Mosul from IS later that day. He toured parts of the city while surrounded by armed guards who carefully policed his movements, as this video shows.According to Rudaw English, al-Abadi walked through part of eastern Mosul, before crossing the river to the recently recaptured western side and travelling to the Nineveh Governorate building, which was retaken from IS in March 2017.
