The Sri Lanka Navy rescued a stranded elephant eight nautical miles off Kokkuthuduwai in Kokilai, Sri Lanka, on July 11 after it had been pulled out to sea by currents, according to a navy press release.The navy said the elephant was spotted during a routine patrol and a rescue team was dispatched. Sailors, divers and officials from the Department of Wildlife directed and towed the elephant, who can be seen breathing periodically through its trunk, back to shore using ropes.
