The problem, what to do about it!

Do your days feel like they’re filled with chaos? No wonder. We operate in a world filled with social media.

How often do you find yourself trapped in the newsfeed? It’s addictive. You keep going back in case you miss something, and it eventually sucks up all your time.

How often do you catch yourself catching yourself when you realise what you’re doing? I bet you’ve done that often and promised yourself you’ll stop…. Only to find yourself back at the newsfeed a little while later.

The use of social media is addictive, in the true sense of the word.

It’s called operant conditioning. The way you behave now is influenced by the rewards you received last time you did the same thing. Checking your newsfeed brings you a real reward.

A study by RadiumOne showed that social media triggers a dopamine high in your brain. Dopamine is the feel-good chemical and it’s released every time you discover something new.

It’s also released when you anticipate something good is going to happen. Your challenge is to find more constructive ways to produce dopamine in your brain while you work....
