3Doodler 2.0: The Worlds First 3D Printing Pen, Reinvented\r
\r
\r
The 3Doodler won our hearts back in new when it picked up Stuffs Kickstart of the Year award after earning a well-deserved five stars in its review. And now its gotten even better.\r
\r
The handheld 3D printing pen lets users create 3D shapes instantly, using melted plastic thats pumped out of its tip, cooling immediately to form solid structures.\r
\r
While the original 3Doodler was tonnes of fun, it was never easy on the eyes, or small enough to chuck into a bag without a second thought.\r
\r
The 3Doodler 2.0 however addresses both of those problems.\r
\r
For starters, it weighs in at a mere 50 grammes, which were told is less than half the weight of an Apple.\r
\r
Its also kitted out in a much more stylish aluminium shell, and its insides have been tweaked too. Theres a revamped drive system and new nozzle design, along with enhanced airflow thanks to a patented fan system, all resulting in plastic thats cooled more efficiently and quietly than before. Dual-speed controls also allow for more precision over your creations.\r
\r
Theres also a new JetPack accessory. It doesnt grant the 2Doodler 2.0 with the gift of flight, but it doesas a portable power pack, providing over three hours of constant doodling with PLA plastic or over two hours with ABS plastic.\r
\r
An optional pedal accessory gives your fingers a break from the 3Doodlers buttons, while a nozzle set for creating different textures is also an option for those looking to take their doodling to the next level.\r
\r
Whether you consider it to be a 3D printer or not, the 3Doodler is arguably one of the biggest success stories to come out of the 3D printing industry, crushing its initial Kickstarter goal in a matter of hours and fast becoming the worlds most popular 3D printing device with over 100,000 sales in just under a year.\r
\r
Now the 3Doodler is headed back to Kickstarter for a second time in its latest incarnation: 3Doodler 2.0.\r
\r
Having pre-viewed at the new International CES in Las Vegas last week, the campaign quickly sold out of its Early Bird Special offering the device at the extremely low price tag of just $50 to eager crowdfunding supporters and has quickly totted up just under $1 million in pledges.\r
\r
So whats new with the 3Doodler? Well, roughly the size of a marker pen, its been completely slimmed down to just 50 grams and is now housed in much sleeker aluminium casing.\r
\r
Along with more efficient and stable heating and a quieter airflow, the device features an entirely new nozzle design and dual speed control for a customised doodling experience.\r
\r
But whats a new toy without some shiny new accessories? The creators have also unveiled a range of new peripherals including a DoodleStand, a JetPack for 2 hours non-stop portable doodling, six interchangeable nozzles and a foot pedal for longer doodling sessions.\r
\r
What appeared as a bit of a novelty, the 3Doodler was originally marketed as a tool for small projects such as repairs and drawings but last year highlighted some impressive examples of the pens capabilities including an entirely doodled dress and large scale artworks.\r
\r
As expected, the 3Doodler 2.0 has already surpassed its modest $30,000 Kickstarter target with 10 days left. The Community Special pledges have already sold out but backers can still get their hands on the $99 package which comes equipped with a pen and\r
four packs of 25 strands of plastic. The pens are expected to start shipping in April new.\r
