Prince Harry meets Melania Trump in Toronto - but world watches for Meghan Markle
PRINCE Harry met the US First Lady ahead of the Invictus Games yesterday – but all eyes were peeled for Meghan Markle, tipped to make her first public appearance alongside the royal. The 36-year-old Suits star is expected to attend the week-long event for injured service personnel in her adopted home of Toronto in Canada. Before last night’s opening ceremony, the Prince met Melania Trump – making him the first royal to meet a member of the Trump family since the President’s arrival in the White House. Tight security meant the meeting was slightly strained with Melania and Harry telling each other: “Thanks, thank you for coming.” The 33-year-old Prince then asked how long she had been in the country. But away from the cameras the couple were said to “get on well” as they discussed the week of events. Melania smiled warmly as she shook Prince Harry’s hand. The visit is her first solo trip outside the US after becoming First Lady. The centre of attention was the opening ceremony at the Air Canada Centre to see if Meghan Markle appeared. A friend of the actress said: “Meghan wants to come and Harry wants her to be there as he is so proud of the Games. “It’s difficult because she doesn’t want to overshadow the amazing achievements of the competitors.” Harry visited the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto, which his mother Princess Diana toured in 1991, where he questioned the tendency to take a pill for every ailment. “There has to be a better way than just giving out antidepressants,” he told youngsters being treated at the hospital. “It seems we suffer from a culture where a pill will fix everything.” Last night it emerged that Meghan’s ex-husband, Trevor Engelson, has sold the rights to a comedy series about a man whose wife leaves him for a British prince. Fox TV said of the show: “Divorce is hard. Sharing custody is harder. “Sharing custody with the British Royal Family in the spotlight of London’s tabloid media is the next level.”. 00FastNews.
