Hey :) Most common sports drinks are so high in sugar that its ridiculously unhealthy, or they have nasty artificial sweeteners. Many are also full of unnecessary chemicals like artificial sweeteners, flavours and preservatives. There are so many things to love about making your own version- its cheap, healthy, personalised to your tastes and to your uses (for instance if you are using it purely to rehydrate, or to re-energise after exercise and therefore want higher calories etc). \r
\r
DIY sports drink recipe:\r
- 750ml liquid - Im using half and half juice and water you could use herbal tea, fruit infused water , plain water, coconut water etc (but thats isotonic by itself)\r
- 1/3 tsp Himalayan salt (because it has lots of trace minerals or you could use sea salt)\r
- 1/4 tsp potassium\r
- 1/2 tsp magnesium / calcium tablet (or 1/4r tsp of each powder)\r
- can add 3-4 drops of stevia to see ten naturally without calories \r
- vitamin c powder (optional)\r
The juice adds the carbs for energy - while also giving it more nutritional value. If you are using juice make sure its real juice and not various fruit drinks because they can full of processed sucrose and not nutritional (but sometimes they are just juice diluted in water, so check the label).\r
Some even simpler options:\r
- plain coconut water (if inexpensive where you live - but healthiest option!)\r
- crush up a mineral pill and a dash of some salt to add to your bottle \r
