A woman went through a complicated brain surgery at a hospital while staying awake throughout and watching the huge hit film Bahubali 2.

A 43-year-old head nurse, Vinaya Kumari, had been admitted to Tulasi Multi-specialty Hospital in South Indian city of Guntur, after she started suffering from seizures.

Doctors diagnosed that she had a tumour in her left sensory cortex, which needed to be removed.

The surgery required the doctors to keep Kumari awake, under local anaesthesia, and have her responding to their occasional instructions.

Neurosurgeon Srinivas Reddy said: " She was nervous and requested us to play her favourite movie. As Kumari is a nurse, she was familiar with the operation room environment.”

A video released by the hospital shows Kumari watching the movie on a laptop as the surgeons remove the tumour.

The footage even has her humming a hit number from the movie, "Dandalayya," during the surgery.

While the surgery was a success, Kumari said she was disappointed that she could not watch the entire movie.

She told reporters: "The surgery (finished) in one-and-a-half hours, well before the movie finished."

The surgery was performed on September 21, but was announced by the hospital recently.

Released early this year, ‘Baahubali 2’ went on to become India's biggest blockbuster with worldwide earnings of over $137 million.
