Digging my water well on the homestead

When I dug my well I wanted to capture as many of the seeps as possible. Although I missed a few on the south side that end up in my secondary holding pond most of this small draw feeds my well. Legally I can dig 15 meters down without a permit where I am in B.C. Canada. I went a bit over 2 meters. After passing the recovery rate test a local well company did, I got documentation of a proven water source and was a step closer to getting my authorization to construct my home. I did a fair bit of research as to what was necessary to be legal and safe. In the video it looks dirty, this is because of my dogs drinking from the headwaters while following me up there. :)\r

I used 2 pvc pipe about 350 long with 60 of drop to supply my home and it gives 17 psi from gravity. Enough to flush the toilets in a power outage. (After being restricted to 3/4). I have a pump and ballast tank set up to boost the pressure to 47 psi. The pipe and concrete rings I bought were blemished but new at a good price and the meyer pump and ballast tank I purchased used in new condition from a demolished house. I saved a bundle and its served me for 5 years so far.\r

I run the rented excavator myself and it was a great idea as I learned a new trade. I had it here for two weeks clearing a sick pine forest off that pasture below. That experience has led to 3 years running a hoe in the bush doing silverculture prep and has been a God send as far as employment goes. Taking the chance and doing it myself made a big difference in my life!\r

I plan to add some pics in slide show format at the end of this clip that show some of the install with my uncle, my Father as well as a buddy Dave. I found out I like heavy equipment so much Ive gotten myself some, Ill toss one in of the hoe I own now I bought from my boss. Great adventure. Add wood stove and the winters are covered.\r

This is the trenching shovel I used to gather the meadows water into a single stream to feed my well. \r
