Watchdog Group Says DHS Violated Court Orders on Travel Ban

According to a watchdog group, the Department of Homeland Security violated two court orders in the days after Donald Trump issued a temporary travel ban on citizens coming into the U.S. from seven Muslim-majority countries. DHS Inspector General John Roth summarized the findings in a letter to three Democratic U.S. senators on Monday, adding he had been unable to release the full report, completed six weeks ago, due to a dispute with DHS officials over redactions. According to Roth, following the January 27 order, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency “was very aggressive in preventing affected travelers from boarding aircraft bound for the United States, and took actions that, in our view, violated two separate court orders."
