There are countless theories about the workings behind the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, and among them is that the slain leader's back troubles may have been a factor, reports CNN.
Due to the problems, Kennedy wore a tight brace, and some suggest that it hindered his ability to quickly react to the first shot and avoid the second and fatal blow.
Dr. Thomas Pait, a spinal surgeon who wrote a paper about Kennedy's back surgeries, told CNN, "The brace was a firmly bound corset, around his hips and lower back and higher up." "He tightly laced it and put a wide Ace bandage around in a figure eight around his trunk. If you think about it, if you have that brace all the way up your chest, above your nipples, and real tight, are you going to be able to bend forward?" Pait further noted.
Of course, the responsibility for the assassination rests on gunman Lee Harvey Oswald, though there are a number of theories regarding whether or not he acted alone.
The recently declassified intelligence files on the November 22, 1963 shooting mention rumored plots and suspect individuals and groups but stop far short of verification and the assignment of responsibility, according to the Washington Post.
Kennedy's was the first assassination of a U.S. president since 1901, the year William McKinley succumbed to a gunshot.
