Americans have declared Fox News as the winner of the "Fake News Trophy."
In a recent Rasmussen Reports poll, 40% of respondents found the cable network worthy of the distinction.
CNN was the runner-up, with 25% of the vote. MSNBC came in a distant 3rd at 9%, while ABC, CBS, and NBC garnered, 4%, 3%, and 2%, respectively.
According to the survey, 53% of Democrats and 42% of voters not affiliated with either major party cited Fox as the leading source of misinformation.
Only 24% of Republicans agreed, with 40% identifying CNN as the biggest culprit.
The poll involved 1,000 likely voters and was conducted on November 28 and 29, shortly after President Trump suggested such an award be given.
"We should have a contest as to which of the Networks, plus CNN and not including Fox, is the most dishonest, corrupt and/or distorted in its political coverage of your favorite President (me)," he said in a tweet Monday. "They are all bad. Winner to receive the FAKE NEWS TROPHY!"
The president has long championed Fox News while disparaging other major outlets as being unfair and outright untruthful.
"@FoxNews is MUCH more important in the United States than CNN, but outside of the U.S., CNN International is still a major source of (Fake) news, and they represent our Nation to the WORLD very poorly. The outside world does not see the truth from them!" Trump wrote in his tweet on Saturday.
