NASA didn't even formally exist when Susan Finley started charting the trajectories for rockets in January 1958. Finley was first employed by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory at the time, working as a "human computer," doing the rocket launch trajectory calculations by hand. NASA officially formed in July 1958 and it assumed control of JPL in December of that year. Since then, Finley has been an employee of NASA, making her the longest-serving woman at NASA With almost 60 years of service under her belt.
