Nyna Loren is an all around artist of disciplines such as dance, theater, piano, violin, guitar, painting, singing ... she touches everything. After a brilliant career in the French conservatoires (Rennes, Paris), she trained at the College of Music in Geneva where she graduated with a Master of Arts in violin and instrumental pedagogy.
Violin turned out gradually into her means to make music for Nyna. As a classical violinist, she "chose to be connected to the arts and music and not necessarily have a violin career." The childhood fascination with saxophone and bandoneon evolved into an influence: She analyzes retrospectively: "I was fascinated by these instruments that breathe all the time and in their actions embody the possibility of sound to last, to get lost and get back without breaking the continuity." She acknowledges that she found a valuable source of rigor and openness to the smoothness in the expression of all emotions in her classical training. But regrets that it sometimes comes at the price of crude instinct, elementary animality, and expressive freedom, it considers difficult to fight the straitjacket of the content and style.
By contrast, the desire of singing was natural and a spontaneous form of expression. She gives the evidence for this choice: "More questions, more struggle: the evidence of the total vibrational force and the direct expression of the voice." Instinct and listening to the effect of all styles, all the music and all the cultures that have nurtured hers ever since, she has built a personal style of voice control, guided by what she likes and she wants to reproduce, preferring the tonal richness to the smooth side of lyrical voices. A song is for Nyna Loren like an oasis in his artistic research: the temporary result of a personal quest to both music and existence.
