PRESENTED BY MIKE DESTRUCTIVE
New Orleans based Biglemoi named themselves after a fantastical dance which, if performed properly, creates an atmosphere of flowing energy that causes your limbs to grow and encourages others to join in.
The term, lifted from French author, Boris Vian’s “Froth on the Daydream (L'Ecume des Jours)”, fits the five piece.
The band is composed of two New Orleans natives, drummer Jonathan Arceneaux and bassist Matt Bigelow. Keyboardist Violeta del Rio hails from Madrid, Spain, while the singers/guitarists Jordan Prince and George Elizondo are from Mississippi and Managua (Nicaragua), respectively. This adds a welcome variety of both personal and cultural influences to their music. Influenced by the likes of Radiohead, Grizzly Bear, Soda Stereo, and Broken Social Scene -- Biglemoi come off as a healthy mix of all the best rock and roll ingredients.
Anchored by simple, pleasant instrumentation, their songs are snapped together by sudden flourishes of technicality and genre shifting. The songwriting and structuring are fun, thoughtful, and unpredictable. Of course, it's best to hear for yourself.
