PRESENTED BY JUDY AND BETH

Ryan Carr is a multi-instrumentalist singer/songwriter who recently moved back to Toronto after a 3 year stint in London, England. In London, he spent most of his time teaching, gigging, writing and recording. He performed all the mandolin parts, some backing vocals, and a bit of electric guitar on UK based folk musician Mark Harrison’s album Crooked Smile. He also co-wrote Norwegian artist Eric Ness’ entire debut album Blah, Blah, Blah and provided all the mandolin, harmonica, and backing vocals. The album’s single All These Problems quickly reached #16 on Norway’s iTunes most downloaded list and the album itself reached #13. Ryan was a regular on the London music scene, playing guitar, mandolin and harmonica with bands such as The Snakeoil Rattlers, The Wagon Tales, Sam Green and Will Greener. He has toured all over Europe and the United States and in the past year has been featured on BBC radio and RBB (German TV).

Now back in Toronto Ryan has just released his debut EP, aptly titled, Progress. Progress is the combined result of 4 years at jazz school, a 2 year bluegrass obsession, and 3 years of touring with a gypsy pop band. It is a mix of Ryan’s passion for roots music - country, blues, bluegrass, and folk – and his need to write songs about current events and daily life. Progress is a paradoxical mix of the absurd and serious back dropped by music that is as confrontational with genre as grounded teenager.
