PRESENTED BY IAN LUTZ

A phrase coined by Shakespeare in Antony and Cleopatra, "salad days" refers to the magical, carefree days of youth, a fondly remembered heyday when joy and innocence reigned and everyone was at the peak of their abilities. Driven by the emotional intensity of frontman Joel Hirezi and the vibrant jangling guitars of Scion Watson, Jacksonville, Florida, indie rock powerhouse Northe aren’t looking back but moving full steam ahead, creating their Salad Days now with the release of their full-length debut.

Fully embracing the overall themes of optimism, youth, deep reflection and the learning that comes from overcoming challenges, the melodic, hard-hitting 10-track pop/rock collection draws from the band’s large array of multi-generational influences, ranging from Buddy Holly, The Beatles and Led Zeppelin to The Strokes, Incubus and My Morning Jacket.

Northe has been laying a powerful foundation for their emergence onto the national scene since drummer Jeff Rivera joined the foundational lineup of Hirezi, Watson and bassist Kevin Scala in October 2011.

The core of every Northe tune derives from the unique songwriting partnership between Hirezi -- who grew up with parents listening to Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and The Beatles, and leans towards an electronic pop and California indie pop/rock vibe — and Watson, whose old musical soul edges toward Southern roots rock and acoustic country. The two met in 2010 when Hirezi (a prolific poet turned lyricist), on break from his studies at the University of North Florida, had time to kill after dropping his dog at the groomer. He wandered into the nearby Guitarists United shop and was mesmerized by the kid in black jamming in the back. That kid turned out to be Watson doing a mash-up of Jimi Hendrix and indie pop band Never Shout Never.
