A Louisiana teacher was asked to leave and was then forcibly removed from a Vermilion Parish School Board meeting before being arrested outside the building on January 8 after questioning the board and its superintendent about his raise. This video shows Deyshia Hargrave – a teacher at Rene Rost Middle School according to local reports and her Facebook profile – expressing frustration that Vermilion Parish Superintendent Jerome Puyau would get a raise and access to a vehicle when, as she says, classes are growing and teachers are bearing the brunt of rising costs. “When I first started teaching ELA there were 20, 21 kids in a class, and now there’s 29 kids in a class that we are now having and we have not gotten raises,” she says.An Abbeville police officer then approaches Hargrave as she is being addressed by Puyau and demands that she leave. The video shows Hargrave leaving of her own accord before being forcibly escorted through the hallway of the building and placed in handcuffs outside.
