A 44-year police constable used his AK-47 rifle to shoot himself during Republic Day celebrations at a government school near Ludhiana’s Jagraon area. Manjit Ram shot himself in the chest with his official AK-47 gun at around 10.30 am, when the Republic Day parade was underway at Government Senior Secondary School Jagraon. The deceased, Manjit Singh was posted as the driver of the SHO, Inderjit Singh of Jagraon police station. Manjit Ram was a resident of Beer village near Mehatpur in Jalandhar district. The victim is survived by his wife, two sons and elderly mother. After the incident he was rushed to a nearby civil hospital, where he was declared dead by the doctors. The reason behind why took such an extreme step is still not clear. However, the police informed that the constable was depressed because of some family problems.The police informed that the body has been sent for post- mortem. They also said that the investigation is in progress.
