Spring cold to ease in afternoon

Today is Daeboreum or the day when we greet the first full moon of the new lunar year. There are lots of fun traditions followed on Daeboreum. To name a few, we have Ogokbap, or five-grain rice with seasoned herbs. Also cracking open nuts with your teeth is believed to help strengthen their teeth and avoid skin problems in the coming year. And on a Daeboreum night people practice Daljip-taeuki, or the burning of wood sticks to bring good luck.

In fact, some of Korea's major attractions will have a great one-day Daeboreum program today so if you want to experience any of the customs I just mentioned, be sure to check it out.

But dress accordingly if you are heading out especially those in the upper regions, daily highs in Seoul will only be at 4 degrees Celsius in Seoul, but it will be 11 degrees in Gwangju under mostly sunny skies.

Spring warmth is on the way this weekend, but be aware of big gaps between lows and highs on Saturday with light rain in store on Sunday afternoon.

With that, let's take a look at the international weather for viewers around the world.

While the nation is in a grip of spring cold on this Daeboreum, most parts in North Korea will also see colder temperatures but sunny skies.

As for the rest of Asia, Beijing will be a lot milder than Seoul under mostly sunny skies.

Meanwhile, those in Perth will see sunny skies turning grey along with stronger winds.

Heading to North America, New York, Washington DC and LA will have a rainy Friday.

As for South America, nothing but sunshine is in store in Santiago and Buenos Aires with very warm highs.

Meanwhile,... Europe is gripped by some of the coldest weather in a decade, but the Europe and the U.K. are bracing for more snow as Winter Storm Emma moves in.

Lastly to Africa, most major cities will be under sunny skies while Cape Town will be cloudy with strong winds.
