How to make a Homopolar Motor

How to make a simple homopolar motor? In this video, I cover the basics about how to make a homopolar motor. My most successful videos have been revolving around neodymium magnets, and I chose this because homopolar motors are awesome. \r
\r
This video also covers several homopolar motor designs as well as some explanation on how they work. I also measured how fast each homopolar motor design was in terms of RPM, and the last one managed to hit around 3600 RPM!\r

This video can be a source of inspiration as a homopolar motor science project too. Its a great demonstration about how magnetism and electricity are linked, and how the “right hand rule” works.\r

In order to show you how to make a homopolar motor, you need 3 basic things. A battery, some wire, and preferably some rare earth magnets, or neodymium magnets (in a cylinder shape, or disc magnets). Some handy tools like wire strippers and needle nose pliers may also help. \r
\r
Homopolar motors explained:\r
These magnets are used in two ways. Theyas a conductor, which completes the circuit and allows current to pass through the wire. They also exert a force on the current in the wire from the magnetic field. So as the current is moving through the wire, the magnet exerts a force on the current (charge) which makes the wire rotate.\r
