Kodak Portra 400 is colour negative film with low contrast and very high sharpness. It’s still available to this day in the formats 135, 120, 220 and sheets.
It saturates colour in a very natural way and it delivers spectacular skin tones. When over exposed 1 or 2 stops, it gives a smooth and creamy, pastel look to your photos. For this, Kodak Portra 400 is perfect for portraits, but I tried some outdoor and nature photography and it did very well even though I was shooting at the peak of winter and the colours and light were terrible. Kodak states that it has a pushability of 2 stops.
Don’t mix up over and under exposing with pushing and pulling. When you over or under expose the film, you just develop it as usual and the effects are due to how much light you exposed the film to. Pushing and pulling is done during the development of the film and it has to do with the time and temperature.
I’ll leave some links at the description if you are interested about it.

So, what do I think about Portra 400? Well, for me it’s one of the best colour films out there.
It has beautiful colours, it’s extremely sharp and the grain it’s barely noticeable when properly exposed, but I don’t think that it is at its best on street photography, where personally I love grain and contrast, but that’s my personal taste and when underexposed, it gets very grainy and the shadows become very muddy. There is a reason why Kodak named it Portra.
Anyway, I will definitely do another episode on this film later on spring or summer to see how it differs from the winter, because I really think that the winter colours and light did not favoured it, but I would love to know what you think about this film, so leave your opinion on the comment section below and if you enjoyed the video, support the channel by subscribing. You can also follow us on Instagram and Facebook. I will leave you now with the remaining pictures.
Hope to see you on the next video and until then, shoot as much as you can.
