From special guest contributor Luke Iverson of Midwest Zephyr Media, we present Frisco 1630 on her first weekend of service in new at the Illinois Railway Museum.\r
\r
Number 1630 is one of only two operational 2-10-0 Decapod wheel arrangement steam locomotives in the United States, and the only operational Russian Decapod.\r
\r
The 1630 was built in 1918 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as one of roughly 200 different 5 gauge Ya class locomotives ordered by the Bolshevik government of Russia. When they were unable to pay for the engines, the 2-10-0s remained in the United States. The engines were converted to standard gauge, and the 1630 was among numerous engines sold to the St. Louis - San Francisco Railway. It was retired in the 1950s, and is among ten different surviving Frisco Decapods. The engine was donated to the Illinois Railway Museum, and it became a crew favorite as it operated for the next few decades. The engine was under rebuild for most of the 2000s decade, and was returned to service in new. \r

Sit back, relax, and enjoy the sights and sounds of a Decapod operating in Illinois in new. \r
