Bargain Store Project #27 Dynamo Pig Torch to Electric Car
In thisI use parts from a Dynamo Pig Torch to make an electric toy car. In a future project I will use some of the other parts to make something else. \r

I used the gears/cogs from the pig. I needed to add an electric motor so I used one from one of my previous projects and it probably originally came from a vibrating toothbrush or similar. It looks like a typical general purpose small motor. I used CDs for wheels although any suitable sized discs would have worked. Lately I have been using the spools from inside old VHS video tape cassettes for many of my projects.\r

Remember, these bargain stores also sell plenty of toys for £1 or less so the project is not about making a cheap toy. It is about taking something and hacking or repurposing it to do something other than what it was designed to do. I am using bargain store products to limit my initial outlay.\r

The main components are:\r
Dynamo Pig Torch\r
Bicycle spoke\r
Electric motor\r
4 CDs or DVDs\r
2 milk bottle tops\r
1 smaller bottle top\r
Clear plastic sheet (I used a picture frame)\r
2 drinking straws\r
1 barbecue skewer\r
\r
Tools\r

Hot Glue Gun\r
Small drill\r
Hobby knife\r
\r
I have had questions in the comments about the magnets I use to connect the wires to the battery.\r
They are NEODYMIUM and I solder them to the end of the wires first. You can get them from eBay or from some craft shops. They come in all sorts of sizes. You dont need them for this project, but I use them because it makes it easy to make the electrical connection to the battery IF THE BATTERY HAS THE RIGHT TYPE OF METAL CONTACTS, not all batteries have steel caps so it does not work on all batteries.\r
