And here are the closing figures on the markets,...
Wall Street was up on Monday as concerns over prolonged military action against Syria faded - and the focus for investors moved to a heavy slate of first quarter U.S. corporate earnings.
The Dow Jones finished up 213 points, or zero-point-8 percent at 24,573, pushed up by Caterpillar and the UnitedHealth Group.
The S&P 500 added about the same percentage amount to close at 2,677-point-8 and the tech-heavy Nasdaq rose zero-point-7 percent at 7,156.
Shares in Korea,... finished up on the first trading day of the week.
The benchmark KOSPI edged up one-tenth-of-a-percent at 2,457 and the junior index KOSDAQ, added half-a-percent to finish the day at 896-point-8.
