The Captiva is a large SUV that can be specified with either five, or seven seats. Models come in two, or four-wheel drive and there's a 2.2-litre VCDi turbo diesel engine with a choice of two power outputs. The lower-powered model gives slightly better fuel efficiency and lower running costs, but both have an impressive torque figure, which aids low-down acceleration. The Captiva offers space and practicality for a price that upmarket rivals can't match: the trade-off is a slightly cheap-feeling interior, noisy engines and an occasionally harsh ride.
