Charles and Ray Eames designed La Chaise for a competition held by the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York, in 1948. La Chaise is made from a lacquered white fiberglass shell on a base of solid natural oak and supported by chromed tubular steel. This elegant seating sculpture has become an icon of organic design and was inspired by the 'Floating Figure' sculpture by Gaston Lachaise. La Chaise is a voluminous lounge piece allowing for a wide range of sitting and reclining positions.
