Does a torn heart heal or callous? A boy sacrifices his passion to mend an already broken girl who has seen it all. When he finally proves his worth of trust, he begins to question his quest of permanence. Spiritually exhausted by his patience, he begins to hallucinate a scenario where the girls naiveté leads them to temporary happiness. Jeffrey Almonte combines his three favorite passions by filming a visual representation of his short story written as a love poem, Permanence. This was originally made with the intentions of covering The Fugees well known hit, Ready or Not with the theme of trying to touch a heart with a wound already calloused. Almonte decided to keep the style of urban literature with its touch of Hip Hop culture by keeping the slang and allegorical symbol of basketball within a modern style of Spoken Word. However, noticing the frequent use of basketball metaphors as he wrote inspired him to create an entirely abstr story that tricks the surface mind with its first impression of simplicity and insignificance. As one continues to read something that merely depicts a boy trying to play a basketball game with a reluctantly lazy girl, a deeper meaning strikes ones subconscious mind that is now easier to immediately and consciously acknowledge through this short film.\r
