Drone Aids In Rescue Of A Man Whose Home Was About To Be Engulfed In Hawaiian Lava

Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano continues to erupt and put people in harm’s way at a moment’s notice. Luckily for one resident, a drone was at the ready to guide him to safety as a fast-moving flow was rapidly closing in on his home.

Hawaii's Kilauea volcano continues to erupt and put people in harm's way at a moment's notice, reports Digital Trends. Luckily for one resident, a drone was at the ready when a fast-moving flow began to rapidly close in on his home.  Rescue workers were able to contact the individual in peril, instructing him to follow the unmanned craft to safety.  "The individual began moving through the jungle toward…where the drone was hovering," according to the US Geological Survey. "While he was making his way through the jungle, the [Department of Interior Unmanned Aircraft Systems] UAS team was able to track him visually (he was using a cell phone flashlight) and information about his location was relayed to the ground searchers." The craft then helped the team find a clear path out of the area being engulfed in lava.
