Tottenham head coach Tim Sherwood says his future at the club should not rest on the 3-0 victory over Aston Villa on the last day of the season, saying people who run football clubs should look "a lot deeper" if they want to build for the future.

Sherwood praises the "brilliant" performance of his side who secured sixth place in the Premier League and Europa League qualification through Paulinho's opener, a Nathan Baker own-goal and an Emmanuel Adebayor penalty.

During the second-half Sherwood invited a fan, with whom he has had regular "banter" during his Spurs tenure, to take his place on the bench. Asked if the fan would be in the betting to be the new Tottenham manager, Sherwood jokes: "No, he's English".
