Turkish Heavy Cavalry “Sipahi” armour on display at the Türckische Cammer in Dresden. The feudal-based sipahi cavalry were a core feature of Turkish armies from the 15th through to the late 18th centuries. The cavalry was divided in to two groups: the akinjis, the lightly armoured archers whose primary role was reconnaissance and harrying of the enemy; and the sipahis, the heavy cavalry, who wore mail and plate and rode armoured horses.
