During Indonesia's dry season when they can't plant rice, some male villagers spend their time clambering up huge poles in a bid to win coveted prizes.

Video filmed last month in Agam Regency, West Sumatra, shows men in teams climbing over each other up nut-tree poles placed vertically in water - nearly pulling each other's pants down as they go - to reach the top, where prizes await.

Prizes include tins of food, cheese, drinks and clothing, according to the filmer.

The trees are lubricated with soap to make them slippery. The video shows several men losing their grip and splashing into the water below.
