Investing.com - Most investors have heard of Bitcoin by now, but a large majority have no interest in owning it because of the digital currency's risk. That's the conclusion of a new Wells Fargo/Gallup poll of some 1,900 investors with a portfolio of at least $10.000. The poll shows almost three out of four do not plan on buying the cryptocurrency. A higher number, 75%, consider Bitcoin very risky. Another 23% consider it at least somewhat risky, according to the poll.Only 2% of the investors polled currently own Bitcoin. The poll shows that age, gender and portfolio size are factors in both awareness and interest in Bitcoin.Only 16% of investors age 65 or older know about Bitcoin. In contrast, almost half of those aged 18 to 49 are aware of the digital currency. The younger group is also twice as likely to be interested in Bitcoin.Men are both more likely to be aware of Bitcoin and to actually own it. Investors with less than $100,000 invested are more interested in Bitcoin than those with more than $100,000 in assets.
