Vegetable prices climb 5.4% for a week due to heatwave
Record-breaking temperatures here in Korea hit last week’s local food prices.
The Korea Consumer Agency said that vegetable prices went up by more than 5-percent in a week.
Cabbage prices saw the biggest hike, rising 41-point-2 percent, followed by spinach with a 33-point-4 percent rise. 13 out of 21 vegetable products became more expensive according to the findings.
Processed seafood prices also rose 7-percent while fish went up 2-point-4 percent.
The price of ice cream, on the other hand, fell by 40-point-5 percent.
Meanwhile, farmers are seeking crop insurance programs to lower the impact of the unpredictable weather on the agricultural sector.
